Dear Alana (and Zoe, you can read this as well)

I just wanted to wish you a super-happy fifth birthday. I hope you like the present and card that I sent from France with Granny.

I saw a picture of the cupcakes that mum made for you to take to kindy and I wish I could have been there to help you eat them!!

Instead, I'm pasting up a photo of the cake that I had for my birthday on board the barge cruise in the south of France - it's called a croquembouche! It's really a big mound of profiteroles topped off with spun sugar, which is rather like fairy floss. I think it makes a really good birthday cake.

Last weekend I went to Paris to meet up with Georgie Parker. We had a really good time and saw lots of sights and did a bit of shopping. Georgie will be bringing something back from Paris for both you AND Zoe. I'm pretty sure you'll love them.

I can't believe that my holiday is almost half-way over. And then it will be Christmas!!

Lots of love
Grandma Susie.

Dear Zoe and Alana

Yesterday, Granny and I went to the most amazing place, called Kristallwelten, which is German for "Crystal World". It's a theme park next door to the Swarovski factory which makes beautiful crystal and glass jewellery and decorative items.

Here's a picture of the entrance to the park - it is in the shape of a giant who is guarding the precious things inside!

You go in through an entrance just to the left of the fountain (or rather, the giant's mouth!)

Once inside, you go through a series of rooms, which have the most dazzling and wonderful things, all featuring crystals. Here are a few that I thought you would really love!

A zebra wearing a pink crystal shoe!
A giant room of crystal mirrors.

Strange underwater creatures

I'll put some more photos up on Facebook, so ask Mum if she can show them to you sometime!!

Hope your new kitchen is starting to take shape, I can't wait to see it. I'll send you some stories and photos from Paris in a day or so.

Lots of love
Grandma Susie.

Dear Zoe and Alana

Granny and I had the best fun last night in Dubai. We went to a mall that is just next to the tallest building in the world - the Burj Khalifa. Here's a photo of the building all lit up:

The mall is so big, it has shops from all over the world. And on top of that, it has an aquarium that you can walk underneath through a glass tunnel. Here's a picture of granny in front of the main aquarium wall. There are hundreds and hundreds of fishes swimming around - it's really very beautiful.
And just around the corner from the aquarium is the Rainforest Cafe, which looked like a lot of fun. Perhaps we should go there one day? There was a model alligator (which looked very realistic) as well as the gorilla that you can see on the entrance of the cafe.
Just across from the aquarium, we saw what we think must be the biggest candy shop in the world as well - called Candylicious. Only part of the shop fits into the photo, so you can imagine just how big it is!!

Afterwards, we went outside to see the dancing fountains, which are quite famous in Dubai. The fountains move in time to the music and hundreds of people come to see them each night.

Tomorrow morning we are flying from Dubai to Vienna. It will be a very big difference in the weather because it's been very hot and humid here, but in Vienna, it is nearly winter and it's going to be cold and raining. I'll send you more updates in a couple of days.

Lots of love, Grandma Susie.
